Before installing the Aqara U200, confirm that the existing cylinder and thumb-turn arrangement are compatible and that the door closes smoothly without needing to be pushed or lifted. A smart motor cannot correct a misaligned latch. Charge the lock, prepare fresh batteries for the keypad, and keep the physical key accessible outside the home throughout testing.

Mount the retrofit assembly according to the adapter required by the existing lock. The motor should sit straight and turn the thumb turn without friction. Position the keypad where it is easy to reach but not exposed to unnecessary weather or public tampering. Do not apply permanent adhesive until pairing and calibration are complete.

Use the Aqara Home app on Android or iPhone for initial pairing, firmware updates, lock direction, and calibration. Test complete lock and unlock cycles with the door open first. Then close the door and repeat the test while standing where the mechanical key remains available. Add fingerprints, PIN codes, or other credentials one user at a time and label them clearly.

For Matter integration, a compatible Matter controller and suitable Thread border router may be required. Add the lock to Apple Home or another supported ecosystem using the supplied setup code. Apple Home Key availability depends on compatible Apple hardware, software, region, and the completed Apple Home configuration. Test unlocking from the iPhone and Apple Watch before considering the setup finished.

Create cautious automations. A notification when the door remains unlocked is safer than automatically unlocking from a broad location trigger. Review guest codes regularly and remove temporary access when it is no longer needed.
