Apple has entered the foldable phone market with iPhone Duo, a device built around a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display. Apple says both screens use the same aspect ratio so content can scale more naturally as the phone moves between closed and open states. The inner panel adds a nano-texture finish intended to reduce glare and make the crease less noticeable.

The foldable is powered by A20 Pro with a custom vapor chamber and a dual-battery architecture. Apple claims up to 31 hours of video playback using the inner screen and up to 44 hours on the outer screen, although mixed real-world use will be more demanding. A precision hinge, grade 5 titanium construction, and 3,000-nit peak outdoor brightness are central to Apple's durability and usability pitch. Long-term hinge wear and screen resilience will require independent testing.

The folding shape creates several camera options. Users can preview a rear-camera selfie on the outside display, show the subject a live preview, and prop the phone at an angle without a tripod. Apple's Smart Take feature uses on-device models to detect when subjects are posing and capture the image. These conveniences will be valuable only if the automatic choices remain predictable and preserve the original image.

iOS 27 has been adapted for the two displays and adds foldable-oriented multitasking. Apple also says Apple Pencil support will arrive later. Authentication moves to Touch ID in the side button, while an Apple Watch can also unlock the phone.

iPhone Duo comes in star white and night sky, with pre-orders scheduled for October 16 and availability on October 23. Apple's official video introduces the design, but buyers should wait for real-world assessment of the crease, app scaling, battery behavior, repair costs, and durability before treating a first-generation form factor as a routine upgrade.
