Apple has introduced AirPods 5 with Active Noise Cancellation in an open-ear design, an updated multiport acoustic architecture, and a new generation of Adaptive EQ. Apple claims the noise-cancellation system removes up to 50 percent more external noise than AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation. Because open-ear fit varies significantly between people, independent listening tests will be important.

The new model also works with Live Translation and Siri AI when paired with a compatible iPhone and current software. Users can respond to Siri with head gestures and make hands-free requests based on available personal context. Translation support varies by language and region, and machine translation should be confirmed when names, numbers, bookings, health information, or legal details are involved.

AirPods 5 start at $129 in the United States. A $149 version includes the Wireless Charging Case, additional battery life, and a force sensor that supports volume adjustment by swiping on the stem. Apple says the wireless case works with Apple Watch chargers, Qi-compatible chargers, and USB-C. Prices and availability vary internationally.

Apple is also promoting better resistance to dust, sweat, and water. That does not make the earbuds waterproof, and resistance can decline with normal wear. Users should still follow Apple's cleaning and charging guidance, especially after exercise or exposure to moisture.

The official Apple video gives a concise overview of the design and advertised capabilities. The practical review questions are comfort over several hours, noise reduction across voices and transport sounds, microphone quality outdoors, battery performance with ANC enabled, and the reliability of device switching. AirPods 5 appear to bring more premium functions to the standard line, but fit and sound remain personal decisions that cannot be resolved by specifications alone.
